Victorian 800 Silver Aesthetic Period Leaf Rose Vine Bracelet
A climbing vine wriggles cheerfully across the face of this Victorian bracelet with sweet hand-etched leaves and blooms extended. Made from 800 silver, the design and style of silverwork makes this piece a pretty example of jewelry within the Aesthetic period which was between 1860 - 1900. With a slender silhouette, this bangle is given a visual softness and femininity from the floral motif that was rendered with delicate detail. Note how elements of the design were etched into the bracelet's base while others are raised, this gives a sense of foreground and background, a subtle and thoughtful technique.

Collector Note on the aesthetic period. The Aesthetic movement in jewelry design took place from 1885-1901, during the late Victorian era. Designers switched from darker pieces to more delicate designs that looked light and natural. Motifs became more about nature, the heron bird was a popular choice, and the pieces became more decorative. A preference for natural gemstones and naturalistic curving lines grew - replacing the iconographic, ornate looks of earlier Victorian pieces.
on figurals. Figural jewelry includes any piece that has been shaped into an animal, person, object, or detailed "day in the life" scene. Antique and vintage figural jewelry is often quite charming and collectible for the realistic or cutesy details. Specific objects or animals became popular and prolific in jewelry during certain time periods, Scotty dogs during the 1940's for example, or swallow birds during the Victorian era. Figural jewelry is special for its detail and realism but also tells the story of the decade they were made in.
